Quality Support For Charity Riders

When 50 riders hit the road for Camp Quality next month they will have three Port Stephens residents supporting them along the way.
Scott Ward, from Salamander Bay, and Corlette residents Stephen Wilson and Carol Compton will form part of the support crew for the riders taking part in Camp Quality’s 1000 K’s 4 Kids ride in September.
It is the first time Mr Ward and Mr Wilson have taken part in an event such as the 1000km bike ride.
Both said they were looking forward to it.
Mr Ward, who owns Nelson Bay Physiotherapy and Sports Injury Centre, will provide riders pre- and post-riding physiotherapy and treat any injuries along the way.
“I’m inspired by the work of Camp Quality and wanted to support them,” Mr Ward said of his involvement with the ride.

“Providing sports coverage is an interest of mine so I learnt more about the charity and signed up to help.”
Mr Wilson, who works at Harbourside Haven, said it was his son-in-law, Jarrett Pacheco, who introduced him to the ride.
Mr Pacheco is one of the riders taking part this year.
“I’ll be driving one of the support vehicles and providing moral support and encouragement,” Mr Wilson said.
“I’m considering doing the ride next year if I can get fit enough for it.”
Ms Compton has taken part in many Camp Quality fund-raising initiatives during the years.
In June, Ms Compton and Jodi Cooper from Soldiers Point walked the Larapinta Trail in the Northern Territory for Camp Quality.
Together the women raised more than $15,000 for the charity which supports children aged up to 13 years old living with cancer.
About 70 people, including the support crew, will take part in the ride which will start on September 8 and end on September 17.
The contingent will begin in Benalla, Victoria and finish the ride in Warners Bay, NSW.
Riders are required to raise a minimum of $4000 to take part, and the support crew $1500 each.
