A message for the local community, Nelson Bay Physiotherapy & Sports Injury Centre is open to continue to provide our service to the community. We are here to help you, and wish to reassure you that your path to rehabilitation doesn’t stop. Please don’t let it sit idle when we are here to help you live life better, act now, before it becomes a greater problem and march harder to treat. Early intervention is the key, fix the niggle!
Physiotherapy is a critical front line health service. We have primary contact with people and play an essential role in reducing hospital presentations during this time.
Tuesday night in a National address, Prime Minister Scott Morrison again confirmed that physiotherapy services will remain open. Yesterday, the Australian Minister for Health Greg Hunt confirmed that “ALL allied Health businesses can continue working and are encouraged to do so.” Face to face services for many remain vital and so where possible are encouraged to continue.
Nelson Bay Physiotherapy & Sports Injury Centre are screening all clients and have infection control measures in place in addition to our normal practices. We have private rooms and have the ability to treat you without contact with any staff or patients other than your treating therapist. Doors are open meaning no contact required on handles, and also with windows open, excellent ventilation.
We wish to reiterate that:
* you are more than welcome (as always) to wait in our open outside waiting area
* you are more than welcome to wait inside in the open air sitting apart as required (but please bring your own reading material ?
* OR you are more than welcome to wait in the car and be called when we are ready to take you through.
* we are also giving you the option to pay using the tap facility to minimise handling on the terminal and avoid contact with pens etc of which you may like to bring your own.
* we can then e-mail receipts to you for you to send off to your health fund/Medicare for claiming if you wish to avoid contact with the terminal (wiped down between patients).
We are also pleased to announce we have in place online video consultations for us to view your exercises, offer advice, and diagnose your injuries if you are isolating (Click here to see how easy it is to connect to us via an online video consultation). We are offering this service to those wishing to self-isolate but at this point encourage you to take the option of face-to-face contact provided you are healthy, have had no contact with anyone with COViD-19, or have travelled interstate or overseas recently.
Our association is working hard on many lobbying issues associated with the provision of this service, especially in regards to the extension of the temporary MBS Telehealth item to include physiotherapy services for people in isolation or quarantine for COVID-19 and vulnerable patients as defined in the COVID-19 MBS Telehealth items. Minister Hunt has announced Stage 3 expansion of Telehealth services with physiotherapy to come in Stage 4, by the end of this week. The Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA) is calling on Private Health Insurers to support this expansion also. The APA believes they are well placed to see some significant shifts in the coming days in this space.
